Local businesses

Google Maps shows you the businesses. LeadCanvas lets you work them.

You search by category and area, review presence and channels, prepare the businesses that fit and continue with people, messages and follow-up in the same place.

From the map to the follow-up, without copying every business into a spreadsheet.

The directory is the starting point, not the process.

A local result gives you name, category, address and some public data. What is missing is the expensive part: deciding whether it fits, reviewing the context, finding a contact channel and recording what happened.

Start with the territory and the category

  • Industry or business category
  • City, neighbourhood or region
  • What their Google Business Profile shows
  • Signals that give you a reason to write

From the whole category to the businesses worth it

Being in the category is not the same as being an opportunity. Preparation goes deep only on the businesses that meet your criteria. If you sell services to an entire industry, it is worth starting from its industry page.

When it exists, the account expands with website, social profiles, advertising, reviews and people. What shows up depends on each business and on the source.

What agencies use it for

  • Agencies and studios selling to shops and local venues
  • Suppliers of goods and equipment
  • Maintenance and technology services
  • Distributors with an assigned territory
  • Software built for a local industry

How do you build a sales territory?

A territory is organized by city, area, radius, neighbourhood or a combination. Before searching, define:

  • Main category and its synonyms
  • Categories to exclude
  • Chains or independent businesses
  • How far you can actually serve
  • How many you can contact per week
  • Which minimum signal justifies preparing one

What makes selling to a local business different?

  • The owner may not have a LinkedIn profile
  • The venue's WhatsApp is usually the channel that does reply
  • The same owner can run several locations
  • The category on the profile is not always the right one
  • The phone can be a landline, a mobile or a switchboard
  • Reviews talk about their customers, not about how they work inside
  • The season changes their activity and their opening hours

The full sequence, from the area to the follow-up.

01. Pick area and industry

You start from a specific category and location, synonyms included and whatever you do not want left out.

02. Clean the list

You remove wrong categories and duplicates before spending time on businesses that were never a match.

03. Separate the ones worth it

You keep the businesses that meet your criteria and leave the rest as coverage for later.

04. Gather the context

You look at website, social profiles, reviews, active ads and people, in the businesses where they exist.

05. Pick the real channel

You decide the channel that actually exists at each business: a related person or the venue's own channel.

06. Reach out and take notes

You work in manageable batches and record who you wrote to and when to come back.

A business profile is not an account yet

The local profile expands with website, social profiles, advertising, technology or people when they exist. Even so it is still a commercial entity that needs deduplication and judgement before entering the follow-up.

How to reach out without burning the area?

A published number or profile is not consent for mass outreach. Respect the rules of each country, identify yourself and always leave a clear way to end the conversation.

LeadCanvas gives a sales team the context to start with a useful conversation.

Frequently asked questions

Does LeadCanvas use Google Maps data?

It works on business profiles to explore local markets, according to the integrations in force. Coverage and fields change by city.

Can I search by neighbourhood or by area?

When the source recognizes that location, yes: you can work by city, area or any zone the search supports.

Does it find the business owner?

It searches for related people on LinkedIn when they are published. At small businesses the real path is often the venue's own channel.
